Moving cost calculator

What will your move actually cost? Most removalist calculators give you one confident- looking number. We'd rather show you a real range, tell you where each figure came from, and be honest when the underlying data is thin — because a single fake-precise number is worse than a wide, sourced one.

How this is calculated

The model is volume × rate: your home size (or floor area, or a cubic-metre figure you enter directly) converts to an estimated volume, which is then multiplied by a per-cubic- metre rate specific to your move type — local, long-distance, interstate, or trans-Tasman. Local moves instead use published by-home-size totals directly, since that's how that data was actually collected. Every figure carries a confidence rating, shown next to it in your results: Firm means consistent across independent sources, Strong means backed by real confirmed bookings, Moderate and Unsourced mean a single source or industry-typical figure with no independent verification, and Advertiser claim means a vendor-marketed figure we haven't independently verified. Where the source data conflicted, we show both figures rather than silently averaging them.

This is an estimate, not a quote. Real prices depend on your specific belongings, property access, and the operator you book — always get an actual quote before relying on a figure to budget against.
