Why I Built Navaroa
Moving is rarely difficult because you don't know how to pack a box.
It's difficult because there are dozens of things to organise, often at different times, with one thing depending on another. What applies to one move may not apply to the next. Add a different city, state or country, a rental or property sale, children or pets, and it quickly becomes difficult to know what you need to do — and when.
I know that feeling because I've been through it myself.
I moved from Perth to Papamoa with my wife, our young son and our dog. Going through the move made me realise how much of the difficulty wasn't the physical move itself. It was keeping track of everything around it — what needed to happen, when it needed to happen, and what depended on something else being done first.
That led to a simple idea: people don't need another generic moving checklist. They need a plan that makes sense for their particular move.
I'm an engineer by background, so I naturally started looking at moving as a coordination problem. What needs to happen? What depends on something else? When does each task become important? And which things change depending on where you're moving, how you're living now, and what you're moving into?
That way of thinking became Navaroa.
What Navaroa Does
Navaroa creates a personalised moving plan based on your circumstances.
Tell Navaroa about your move and it works out what you need to do, when you need to do it, and helps you keep track of it.
The goal isn't to give you more information to sort through. It's to bring the right information together at the right time, so a complicated transition feels more organised and manageable.
Navaroa is currently focused on moves within New Zealand and Australia, where requirements, services and practical considerations can change significantly between regions.
Where the Information Comes From
Navaroa combines first-hand experience with research from relevant government, regulatory and industry sources.
For things such as tenancy requirements, registrations and other specialist matters, we aim to use authoritative sources and link to them so you can check the information directly.
First-hand experience helps shape how Navaroa approaches the practical side of moving, but it isn't a substitute for official information. Where a requirement matters, we want you to be able to see where the information comes from.
Where Navaroa has affiliate or referral relationships, these are disclosed clearly.
Navaroa is independently built and continues to evolve. I'm improving it based on what people find useful, what they find confusing, and the things they tell us are missing.
