1. Get quotes from movers who specialise in long-distance runs, not just local operators — pricing and logistics differ a lot.
2. Ask about delivery windows. Long-distance moves are often quoted as a date range, not a fixed day — plan your own travel and first-night accommodation around that.
3. Ask what happens if your new place isn't ready. Some movers offer short-term storage as part of the service.
4. Book 6-8 weeks out if you can — longer over summer.

Common mistakes

• Assuming local-mover pricing logic (hourly rates) applies — long-distance is usually volume + distance based
• Not confirming insurance cover for the full transit distance
